*Jess♥ Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Share with us powerful words. Poems or short prose or speech etc. I think for this thread, it needs to be accessible so think about if somebody could read it in less than 1-2 minutes. Also, for speeches etc in hte form of videos, try to keep it short I think 5 minutes might be ok but 10 minutes is pushing it. My first share :- Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.Max Ehrmann, "Desiderata" 3 Quote

*Chernaudi Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Lyric video by Liana for their single Oceans: I know that it's probably a better fit in the music video thread, but the lyrics are very poetic and powerful, and perfectly complements the music and feel of the song. Pretty powerfully relaxing tone and it kinda carries you to another world. 1 Quote
Aether Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Tao Te Ching: Chapter 29 Do you want to improve the world? I don't think it can be done. The world is sacred. It can't be improved. If you tamper with it, you'll ruin it. If you treat it like an object, you'll lose it. There is a time for being ahead, a time for being behind; a time for being in motion, a time for being at rest; a time for being vigorous, a time for being exhausted; a time for being safe, a time for being in danger. The Master sees things as they are, without trying to control them. She lets them go their own way, and resides at the centre of the circle. (just one of the 81 verses that speaks to me.) ¬./Anonymous¬ Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Blank Slate Blank Slate The canvas of my mind is the soft water lapping Flightless birds cross the framework and come tapping A ship of stability rocks on the waves Negativity grips the ship, watch as the sky caves Thoughts show the dolphins leap, the sharks won’t sleep Occasional cloud, lightning strikes, the canvas weeps The mind’s eye is introspective, creating a mirage Tempest turn, sails burn, assembling my courage Dive to the deep, fight the darkness of the depths Choking on the voice of reason, take your final breaths Soak up the agony, waiting for redemption Kick to the surface fighting all the contention Take the hand of change, change the scenery Fly to the heavens in a broken piece of machinery Wipe the canvas to silence the commotion Because sometimes to know emotion, you have to drain the ocean. ~Pseudonymous Walsh 1 Quote
Salkafar Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 The Declaration of War upon Freedom: "I am the new God. All is one in Darkseid. This mighty body is my church. When I command your surrender, I speak with three billion voices. When I make a fist to crush your resistance, it is with three billion hands. When I stare into your eyes and shatter your dreams... and break your heart... it is with six billion eyes. Nothing like Darkseid has ever come among you; nothing will again. I will take you to a hell without exit or end. And there I will murder your souls! And make you crawl and beg! And die! Die! DIE FOR DARKSEID!" Because strong and seductive words are not only spoken by the good, but also by the evil. Quote
Salkafar Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I am an atheist, but: 13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Quote
