I didn't want to taint the VDF thread with this in case it gets shot down, so I started a new topic....

ive been thinking of this for a while now and I see that the VDF scanlation is now complete (thanks to guyverfan for the sacrifice of opening his sealed Japanese version )

so.....

Have you ever considered that we could get the book printed and bound??

There are various websites where you can upload images and have them put into a photo book, after a quick search ive found bookprinting uk , inky littlefingers, mixam, blurb, (all in the UK i think)....

I don’t know if theres any legal issues (certainly no more than the grey area of scanlation anyway) but its not as if we would mass produce them to sell for profit, we could ask on the board get enough printed for those who wanted them (set at the actual price of printing and enough to cover p+p) and that would be that, its really no different than printing it off at home for yourself and a friend, but the outcome would be a lot more professional and nicer.

Im not sure how the quality of scans would hold up in printing, it might be something to look into

I for one would really like to get the VDF printed in English. Maybe its because im old skool and like to be able to look at something in my hands rather than on a screen , and also I think the chances of it ever being printed in English is zero.

so what do y'all reckon?...

I've got my VDF on the shelf next to my manga, I read the scanlations on my tablet thanks to this site.

If we did start printing how would that support the creator's?

i already have the vdf hong kong version. I don't intend on buying the Japanese version aswell just so I cant read that either.

I like to have physical copies of things hence I have all the viz graphic novels after buying single release issues when they came out, chuyang yi books and the rest of the volumes in Chinese and Japanese...aswell as the orginal vhs tapes from 94 - 95 when they were released in the UK, then the release on dvd , the 2005 tv series on DVD various BFC figures etc. to be honest i think ive supported the franchise enough....

this isnt about taking from the creator, its about enjoying the book as a BOOK after all the hard work put in by the creator and the advocacy for translating it and typesetting it. if it wernt for us fans there would be no series so its supporting the creator by pleasing (probably only avery few)fans!

I think the answer to this question would be the same as how you feel about printing the actual manga.  Though many might frown upon this act, there's really nothing we can do if you have the digital copies.  I think its enough that we stick the digital copies up here, going the next step as to offering to print it might be going a wee bit too far.  There might be a loophole, but I can't just outright say it.

good idea, as you've said, there'd be only afew members that would like this. and it may actually be cheaper and less stressful if the individual member do it themselves. ( also, for reasons as durendal has pointed out)

here in australia, there's a chain of stores called officeworks, who obviously sell everypiece of office utencils to furniture. and they also do small&large scale printing of everything. and i'm pretty sure they do book binding aswell or something close to it.

im sure there are stores similar in other countries.

if the file is accessable for download and then put on usb. definitley would be cheaper than using your own printer, especially if you've got a cannon( $160 for colour ink cartridge, ouch!)

ok then. no problem, I thought that may be the case but I just thought I would ask and it would be a cool thing to have .... ah well, you may aswell scrap the topic then if possible.

good idea guyverfan.not sure we have those in the UK but I can look.

I think anybody giving these files to a professional printing company would raise a lot of red flags and that would be bad for us.

Yeah, there are enough legal issues abound on the internet nowadays.  Remember how a lot of those manga fan-sub translation sites got shut down a few years back, due to a lot of the manga companies pulling the copyright card.  Doing this, printing out the VDF, without legal consent, would be like slapping Takaya in the face....maybe.  Still, it's not a step that we should take as it could bring a bad light upon us.

Its not a good idea.....at all. I'm siding with Yuki and Ryuu-Oh on this issue.

I don't think it's fair to shoot it down completely without acknowledging the benefits and the advantage of it.

I think it was a really good idea. We all know Aether has not got a bad bone in his body so I think we need to fist acknowledge the value of the idea before we condemn it.

thanks for that comment Yuki  :) ....

this is probably why the thought has been in my head but not acted on it and didnt say anything! i think i knew deep down it wasnt a viable idea, but hey you cant blame a dude for trying!!

well now that idea is put to bed the only way around it that i started to do was this:

incase you cant tell what ive done is print out the text from the vdf and stuck it into the original book... it could be better , but at least i get some of my wish, a physical book i can flick through and understand... only thing is its going to take flippin ages to do the whole book and lots of figuring out sizes of text ...

oh well thats the price of being a Guyver otaku :G1:

nice :)

I once did print out some guyver manga with my own printer. not a very good result because the pages got a bit soggy, but I actually do have a little tiny bit of english printed manga.

Anyone can do the same thing and nobody would be any the wiser.
