Why Guyver Sucks ?

Guyver sucks,

I’m going to talk about why it does.  Like Ranma and Akira I saw this anime at a Blockbuster video store.  Looking at the box-art, you knew that this was going to be interesting.  Popping the VHS tape in the VCR it starts with a smegging amazing theme song. I definitely loved the 90’s anime pop songs for sure.  Check out Bubblegum Crises for some killer tracks as well.   Below are some reasons why the Guyver pissed me off.

Guyver sucks because 1) Concept was great, Execution was not

I loved the concept and idea of the Guyver, a symbiotic biological weapon from the past where our Gods created humans.  The Guyver powers I loved, the idea of regeneration, the fact the Guyver can fight on auto pilot to protect himself was cool.  The way it was designed was amazing (the look), the fact it’s face is covered as well so he’s protected from gases (or other biological attacks).  The way he exhales is cool.

Those smegging blades on his elbows and they vibrate so much it can cut through anything,  The use of Anti-Gravity instead of just flying, Hyper Sense (like Spidy Sense).

And finally the Mega-Master a weapon he would have died 20 times over if he didn’t have this.  An organic super hero is an interesting idea.  I loved it when I was 15 at the time.

 

Although the Guyver itself is smegging awesome, the plot and battles of Guyver are very poorly done.  I never was very interested in the Guyver battles.  The only one that peeked my interest was when Guyver 1 Fought Guyver 2 and they repeated the same scenes a few times. I wanted a more fantastic display of fighting.  The live action movie of Guyver 2 is the type of fighting I kind of wanted, especially the great climax of that movie where he fought a Guyver Zoanoid.  I rarely see Guyver 1 use his anti-gravity power to do some amazing moves.  Half the time he doesn’t know what the smegg to do.  Overall the battle style of the series isn’t what I expected (repeating animation with lots of speed lines).  I wanted a more JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure or Dragonball Z type.

The plot of the Guyver in first season is Chronos attacks Sho and he has to fight back.  Then he attacks the Japan Chronos HQ.  In Season 2 Sho is on the run and Chronos attacks and he has to fight back.  Of course I’m over generalizing, but that is the majority of the show I just described.

Guyver sucks because 2) Sho Fukamachi is a huge winey little bitch.

I’m tired of the spider-man I just want to be a normal person.  Trust me being normal can suck too.  When Sho becomes the Guyver he just smegging whines about wanting a normal life, you know instead of a logical thing call TRAINING.   This smegger doesn’t train at all with the Guyver unit, are you kidding me half the battles are him figuring out his power.  That is so smegging stupid.  When people are after you, you have to make sure your ready, you have to train and figure out what the Guyver can do.  A normal person would try to figure it out before battle.

Sho just whines and says why me, although I do understand that, you got to man up and start to kicking some ass or the character really annoys you.

I just smegging hate characters that don’t train.  Guyver wants to show an average student suddenly given super powers (a Nerds dream).  If that happen to me, you know what I would do?  I would smegging TRAIN AHHHHHHH.

 

 Guyver sucks because 3) Manga went on Hiatus and Guyver TV came out far too late.

After the OAV finished on a pretty lame ending (nothing really resolved).  At least it wasn’t on a cliff hanger.  I wanted to know more of the story.  This stupid thing was on Hiatus for a very long time.  I can’t find or recall exactly how long the Hiatus was, but it was long enough for me to lose interest (7-10 years). That smegging connection anime has to manga smegging pisses me off.  When the Guyver TV series came out, I had no interest in it.  I did read about it, I do have an idea on what happens, but from what I read Guyver TV 1-16 is a retread of the OAV series, so episode 17-26 is new content.  Even after all this time the story still isn’t finished, and probably won’t be.  Guyver isn’t as popular as Onepiece or Bleach so expect no resolution.

Guyver sucks because 4) The Conspiracy of drenn

In this anime, we live in the world where all important aspects of our lives are controlled by Chronos. Anyone with knowledge of the Guyver or Zoanoids is killed.   In the beginning of the series Sho wants to make everything about Chronos public. He goes to a news media building to tell the truth.  The reporter is shock and tries to do the story.  About 10 minutes later a bomb blows up and the reporter is killed.  In Guyver Out of Control after the horrible sniper shooting, Sho is taken to the police station and the Police Chief transforms to a Zoanoid and tries to kill Sho.  Sho uses the mega masher to kill the chief.  Both these two events are basically like terrorist attacks.  The whole smegging world would have their eyes on both these explosion and the 100’s of people would start an investigation.  A police station and news organization explosion is huge news.  You can’t cover that up.

The idea of an organization that can cover everything up is silly.  At least with Metal Gear Solid, the cover up was intelligent and part of a political process which everyone accepts.  They didn’t’ blow drenn up.

Let me continue on this point, Sho idea on making the Guyver, Zoanoids and Chronos public is a good move.  I would probably want to do the same thing.   However after the news explosion he doesn’t bother doing trying to make Chronos public.  This pissed me off so much.  I can understand that the message you want to convey can get intercepted, but why doesn’t he go to a live event and wreck drenn up.

Here’s my idea If I was the Guyver I would go to a sporting event like a baseball game (or some other live televised event), or hell just transform in the city and run around.   You can even pretend to be a bad guy and wreck drenn up.  If you’re a wanted world criminal and everyone is after you, at least the secret would be out.  Because Sho didn’t go this way, Chronos was able to plan everything out and it did eventually conquer the Earth.   Keeping Chronos a secret was a huge mistake.

 

Guyver sucks because 5) Guyver is a pussy.

For a heavily armored, heavily armed super weapon, the Guyver is a wuss.  Regular Zoanoids can beat him up.  Are you kidding me, half the time in Guyver Sho is getting his ass kicked or losing his limbs.  The Guyver is supposed to be the creator’s ultimate weapon.  The armor of the Guyver is ridiculous; should claws and teeth from regular Zoanoids hurt him (I think their teeth and claws should break instead)?

A couple of Zoanoids can make easy work of the Guyver.  I was never fond of Enzyme Zoanoid.  He made the Guyver too weak.  A Guyver vs a Zoalord forget it, he would get his ass kicked. (Yes I know about Guyver Gigantic).

He should only get wounded, by maybe Zoalords, but if the henchmen can kicks your ass, then you’re a pussy.

Guyver sucks because 6) Miscellaneous Points

Usually I go into more detail on the plot, but the Guyver series plot pacing is really bad, so I don’t have too much to talk about it and I’m writing this from memory as well, it’s been a while since I saw Guyver. This anime had some dark moments too, when Sho was forced to killed his father Enzyme 2 and in Guyver Out of Control when a sniper killed 2 of Sho’s friends to draw him out (really dark drenn).

Mizuki Segawa Sho love interest isn’t very interesting as well.  I wanted more from her.

Season 2 of the OAV cut the theme song (why cut it? It’s an OAV play the whole smegging song).

Sho friends don’t do drenn.  Tetsuro doesn’t do anything, but stand in shock all the smegging time.  Here is an idea, have a smegging weapon.  Get a High Powered sniper files or some kind of tech that does damage to the Zoanoids. Maybe use that Sniper rifle and at least aim for the eyes.

Also no video game based on the Guyver, really?  This anime begs for a video game for sure.  If there is one let me know.

Most of what you are complaining about comes from the anime.  Different continuities do things a bit differently.

 

Sho was not a warrior, he was always hoping for a normal life.  Though now, he is an actual warrior, and will kill as needed.  He does not hold back from regular zoanoids anymore, he developed as a human being.  And Tetsuo has also taken on the role of science advisor, providing intel to Sho so that he'll be better capable of forming strategies to take out different zoanoid types.

 

Oh, and your pic 'who the hell are you', that's Shizu.  Remember Agito's love interest?  He aquired his own scientist and processed his own zoanoids that HE could control, and turned his girl friend into a quazi zoalord.  I think you would like Agito a little more than the story's protagonist.  He seems to think more along your lines.

ok for starters sho is a whiny bitch because his whole life has been ruined. any plans he had, any dreams or hopes of college or growing old perhaps dating mizuki or anything that resembles a somewhat normal life is gone. he will spend the rest of his days looking over his shoulders constantly aware that there is a evil organization that has tried to kill him any which way they can I mean for smeggs sake they made him kill his own dad.... Im going to assume in real life if you as a teenager were forced to kill your dad and he got turned into a horrifying monster you might be kind of depressed. Plus sho isnt a badass, its kind of told to us from the beginning in the manga and both anime adaptations that sho is a wuss, he is a regular teenager who cant even talk to mizuki let alone have her see his back were the two marks are. Hes a shy easily intimidated kid, so of course hes also get his ass handed to him in fights. and what training are you talking about in what time frame is he ever gonna be able to set aside loads of free time to train, they are kidnapping his friends, his family anyone they can to constantly put him on his feet moving. What little time sho got to train in the original OVA was from agito and that was bland because well lets see they tricked sho with a mizuki clone. the point of sho becoming the guyver is that he isnt a badass at all. he gets smegged up and hurt alot because hes A KID. Agito has had years of training so he knows very well how to defend him self even without the armor.  The animation not be amazing either but the original ova came out in 1991 lol all ova series at the time didnt have the best animation lol. most of your complaints stem from inherit character traits within sho as a person for the series. Hes not ment to be the things you want, hes a highschool kid whos afraid and has no clue what to do and is just learning how to use the guyver. The whole motif of that is pretty straight forward when shos brain gets damaged with his father/enzyme 2 fight. once sho is removed from the suit psychologically it becomes a killing machine. Sho has to be those things because hes the relatable character for the audience. if sho didnt act that way or wasnt portrayed that way then there would be zero suspense, he has to be afraid and whiny because hes a normal person outside of whats going on. If sho was a badass and can easily handle chronos then there would be no point and the show would be boring as smegg. Nothing is better in classic story telling then watching the hero come close to losing and winning the battle by a narrow margin thats just writing basics 101. But as the show progresses Sho does actually learn from his battles in the end of the OVA he proved that hes actually a better guyver then agito, he was more inventive on his feet plus he over came the odds and used almost every weapon in his arsenal. then he did something no other guyver host had done up to that point he fired the megasmasher without the use of his arms. plus sho also got killed and came back to smegging life... hes a character that learns through experience. and he becomes a tougher character by the end having vowed to avenge his father and decides that no matter what he will no longer run away, he will fight them head on and take them down. thats what most people call a character arc, and sho has a good one by the end of the series hes a completely different person who basically grew up. Not all heroes are complete badasses, a truly great hero is someone who has flaws and learns from them which sho does. I feel like you missed out on alot of things within the original OVA, especially when it came to examining character arcs. your generalizing things so much without doing proper in depth analysis.

plus tetsuo doesnt do anything because hes also A KID!!! these monsters are super powered would you like to tell me where hes gonna get a 50 caliber rifle. let alone learn how to use it lol jesus christ. plus tetuso isnt ment to do any fighting as much as he would probably like to. hes the conscience of the series in both series actually hes also the point of logic in many scenes pointing out things. in many ways hes a remote viewer much like the audience. murakami had to get his gun from someone else even then its custom made to kill zoianoids and he has to rely on his psychic abilites to help him almost every time he gets into a situation so what makes you think tetsuo is gonna be of any use other then just get in the way. This person who reviewed this is kind of a idiot. You just want everyone to kill monsters and have no weaknesses, the point of the guyver getting hurt from zoianoids is just that, it can be hurt its not a god lke weapon. it has weaknesses many actually, and thats what makes it interesting to watch the guyver isnt a undeafeatble killing machine, it can be matched, what makes it better is the user. its not about the battles, its about how hard sho fights, how hard agito fights, its about in-surmounting odds and over coming them. plus sho couldnt come close to giving away chronos because its clearly indicated that chronos owns everything. they are everywhere, they own the news, the cops, the press. they own everything. and the people who arent under their influence would just be killed. so going out in public and exposing your self as the guyver does nothing but give the innocent people around giant targets on their backs lol. If they can turn a whole town into zoanoids lol. who ever posted why guyver sucks is a smegging idiot. omg, they have no clue how writing works, sure the series isnt perfect nothing is. but what your sighting it for is just stupid. if your gonna say why something sucks you better have some damn good reasons, and do some smegging research before posting idiotic bullshit. "i hate when characters dont train" well Im sorry that not everyone is smegging naruto or ichigo from bleach, sometimes the hero doesnt have time for that. sometimes the badguys are actually really good at being badguys and trying to kill the good guy lol. get out of here with your stupid bullshit.... guyver sucks you know what you suck!

Just like the TV Tropes thing, the guy who wrote this seemed to just be in the state of being a smart ass. I did see the original article, when I was doing a Google images search for Shizu/Griselda stuff, and that was my opinion back then. This person bashed Guyver without having much if any basic knowledge about it. I rip on film reviewers who crap on the Twilight films without even reading the damn books. My feeling is that if one wants to comment about something and not look like a total dumb-ass, at least cheat and read about the stuff on Wikipedia! That's better than nothing. Granted, it would be better if someone who wants to crap all over something would do a bit more than that and actually educate themselves first.

It's like me and Twilight. I was indifferent to the novels until I found out that Kristen Stewart (who I liked in Speak, among other films) was in it, and I read the novel first before I watched the film. Since then, I was hooked to the whole Twilight deal, and if I didn't give that stuff a chance, it would've passed me by. But then again, I don't think that some people research stuff because it might change their view of something. That's ignorance at its finest (or worst) right there. Of course, we're talking about a shonen manga comic, but when it extends into other, more important areas, that's when the crap hits the fan.

In all, the guy who wrote this article just comes off as obnoxious and he clearly didn't do his homework. Ironically, all he'd have had to do for some decent research to back up his arguments is come here and search for some info. Of course, had he done that, his article might have to be renamed Why Guyver is Cool, instead of Why Guyver Sucks, but, uhm, whatever...
