Let's try to keep this board alive while we impatiently wait for a new chapter!

We've previously discussed film and anime ideas for Guyver COUNTLESS times, but I don't think we've ever had a thread on a live action TV series (correct me if I'm wrong). With Netflix being super popular at the moment, how would you do a live action Guyver series? Would you change the design of the armour? Would you change the story or follow the manga? Which actors would you like to see play who?

Personally, I'd like something similar to Netflix's Daredevil series. Dark and gritty.

Show me what you've got!

I must say, I never find manga/western comics cross over to film very well, let alone TV series. They never stick to the source material enough for me. I find it difficult to enjoy most adapted films/series for that reason. That's just my opinion.

If they were to follow the story and not deviate too much, that would be my ideal, but I understand that doesn't ever happen.

As for cast, i'd rather relatively unknown actors take the roles. That way, theres bending the characters to suit any actors acting style.

But I would welcome and watch any guyver remake/reboot, just to support my favourite manga of all time.

I wouldn't.

I would rather see a show about a guy getting a powered armor and having to deal with his own issues with a mix match of issues stolen from other sources. IE basically what Kamen Rider is. But darker and more realistic would be nice. That way it could use Guyver tropes, but not ruin the idea of the Guyver itself, and also be allowed to grow on its own without having to stick to the source material.

My biggest source and need for this change, is the 2 live action Guyver movies. The first is a bad dark horror comedy and the second is a tokusatsu themed variation... and as much as Dark Hero is liked, neither are REALLY "Guyver"... BUT to their credit they do also make some changes and try to make it their own thing, just using the Guyver license.

But as a "TV show"? I really dislike how "western" TV shows do business. They never have an "Ending" in place, and just keep going until the show is not popular anymore... So despite a show being good in its first couple seasons, it tends to over stay its welcome soon after.

I think something dark and awesome. Heavy on the choreography of the fighting. Make it a few seasons long. Utilize the best special effects both cg and makeup. No real redesign of the suit or characters needed. Should deviate from the source material enough so that we don't know what will happen all the time but close enough to stay true to it. The hard part is the scope of the story. Being able to build it from Sho activating the unit all the way to Draglord would be amazing. But the designs of characters like Aptom would be so cool as he fluctuates so much. Marketing would be sweet too. Posters touting the zoanoid and chronos revolution, wanted posters for the Segawas, etc. I see other shows out there like helix or black mirror and think "damn, if only they would do a show or movie today how amazing would it look?!" This property has so much potential but is lost among cat eared boobie chicks and ninja pirate vampire zombies... Either way still my favorite manga ever. One day it will get back to the glory it was meant to be.

Side note... How great would it be to see the Gigantic XD all power rangered up?! I have zero idea on casting either. But damn I wish it would happen!

If an American Live Action Television Series adaptation is made, I feel that it should follow the characters and story of the live action movies, maybe a reboot.  I feel that no matter how much we may want it, the source material can only be truly conveyed rightfully in anime form.

The live action movies is something that most if not all Guyver fans are familiar with and have accepted as a part of the Guyver fandom.  The movies reached incompletion very early on and so if it was rebooted and continued, it would leave some room for creative freedom for like the story and it's progression, character development, and possibly introducing or foreshadowing more characters and events down the road.

Also, Guyver: Dark Hero had done some world building and had unresolved loose ends that someone could very well add on to and continue.

Imagine remaking the fight between Guyver Sean against the Fulton Balcus Zoalord and the Guyver-Zoanoid.

I agree I would like to see a dark gritty story nothing too comedic but serious..

The suit I would like to be the same and real not CGI Spider-Man style but the transformation CGI shown as growing over Sean wrapping around him more organic style...

There should be flashback parts that show how the Zoanoids and Guyvers began and was found again in modern day but also follow as much of the original story throughout the seasons.

As much as I love the source material, a LA TV series would need to follow it's own story in a sense.  It could take a lot of influence from the manga while also having its unique story.  Tech-wise we've come a long way from the 90's set up in terms of CGI and costuming, so portraying Zoanoids/lords accurately is a small hurdle in comparison to the rest of production and execution.
