New Chapter status?

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow is when the next Ace is due out. Monthy ritual repeats then.

Edit: This months Ace is out but no new cover yet. Looking at a translation of the description no mention of Guyver.

sounds like legal troubles...............I bet Takaya doesn't own the publishing rights, and Kadokawa have decided to drop it.

There's nothing Takaya can do. He can't get it published via another outlet without getting the rights signed over, and if Kadokawa don't want to publish or sign over then it's stuck in indefinite limbo. Even if he leaks the manuscripts on the internet, he's liable to get sued.

Only chance we have is if another publisher comes along and purchases the IP rights, or there's a sudden increase in popularity (high profile endorsement), that makes it financially attractive for Kadokawa to resume publication.

It's a shame. Probably explains why he continued with Zeorymer Omega, since Tokuma are still willing to put it out (He dropped a tank last year). If only they had the buying power to transfer guyver to them. It would be a much better fit in Monthly Comic Ryū.

Only time will tell, but the poor dudes gonna be 59 next year!

focus group, demographic, target audience, what have you.

No, not at all. Quite the opposite.

All the women who make the covers are usually from fanservice heavy series that are male fantasy series. It's still very much a SHONEN ( ie male teens) targeted book.

I think it signifies more of a changing trend amongst japanese boys. since actual relationships are on a decline, more japanese men are seeking relationships with video game characters, comic book characters, love pillows, etc. This may sound disparaging but It's not, it is actual truth. This seems to be reflected in what Monthly Ace is advertising.

edit:

I question though... is it doing this to increase desire in an effort to push boys to pursue women more, or is it training them to have affections for fictional characters?

Strange thing I just noticed (I noticed it because I finally received volume 32): The newest chapter is not in it.

Also two interesting new Zoanoids got no files or even names. That happened before though. It's as annoying now as it was before.

Yes, 2 chapters were released after volume 32 came out.

Just makes the situation seem even weirder.

Wait, what? I know of only one. The one that ends with Jabir flying away in his Zoaform.

Yep, and if if i'm not mistaken next month marks precisely 3 years of hiatus.........34 years of serialization..........and Takaya's 59th birthday.

.............with not even a hint or why and when it may resume. All we have is an e-mail from Shonen Ace a year ago saying it's not cancelled and they'll make an announcement when it returns.

Maybe we'll hear something next year for its 35th Anniversary?? At this point I really feel like the man has just retired from being a manga artist.

The end of April 2016 will be 3 years since the last individual chapter, but February 2016 was the release of Vol 32, the last volume of manga we got.

Volume 32, from Chapter 197 onwards was Agito's assault on Kurumegnik's base that contained both him and Jabir. They both transformed and battled Gigantic Dark Exceed. The last chapters, which would combine to be ch200 in vol.33) had Jabir burst out of some kind of eyeball trying to escape.

Good catch! Yeah, I just consulted my chapters and saw there were 13 pages released in April 2016, with the last page saying "Guyver will continue in May" :)

May 2019 maybe? lol

He can't just quit it and leave us holding our collective bag. It's un-Japanese.

Yes, but not saying a singe thing about why your serialization has abruptly stopped is also very un-Japanese too, so I guess it's just par for the course with this guy.

Knowing how the business works, there could be a few reasons why the manga has been AWOL for so long.

1) His editor, or the editor in chief at ACE is not happy with his work, and doesn't deem it good enough to run.

2) The title has been dropped all together. (Not an entirely far-fetched theory. Regardless of whether it's still listed or not, this could very well be the case.)

3) Takaya is in poor health and has been unable to draw.

4) Takaya has had enough, and can't be bothered to continue anymore.

Where most established manga creators with a large following have assistants to help draw the manga each week/month, it's possible that he is working alone. That would certainly justify the paltry number of pages each month even when it was being serialized. I recall seeing him placing an add for assistants (which he certainly wouldn't have had trouble finding since there are so many out there looking for work these days) so perhaps he found a few, but even if he did, he's barely done anything.

Whatever the reason behind the hiatus, the fact that NOTHING has been said via the appropriate channels by Takaya himself is by far the biggest disappointment. Like many of you, I enjoy reading the Guyver, but it isn't THAT spectaular that its creator can just sit in silence and keep his fans in the dark without some kind of explanation. By mangaka standards here in Japan, he's been most unprofessional regarding the hiatus and the treatment of his fans.

Personally, I think the reason might be a combination of 3 and 4.

Wow. I can barely remember that chapter, it's been so long since I read it. I knew they both combined or something to fight Gigantic Dark but one of them looked like a ball and then they fused and started fighting. Creating a bunch of large tornados and such.

Do we need to make a petition like they did for Young Justice? By the way I'm so glad Young Justice is back!

Hi from Italy.

In the last book, april 2017 (italian edition by star comics), there is an interview, in the end Takaya promised 2 things, a conclusion for the story and above all he said he was preparing something special for the 30th anniversary.

Since then nothing, the darkness. I mailed star comics for information and waiting for an answer.
